There are plenty of factors that go into buying a new pair of boots. For Seattle Backpackers Magazine’s Michael Falco, it came down to five criteria: sizing, comfort, traction, versatility, and eco-friendliness. In the end, he settled on the KEEN Targhee II Mids. Let’s take a look at what went into this decision.
To test out these new hikers we went on a little hike on a lovely little mountain – Mt. Rainier. We did the Rampart Ridge Loop, approximately 4.5 miles with a 1300’ elevation gain. Little did I know how much I would love my new hikers. With no break-in prior to this hike I am glad to report NO BLISTERS, were received, not a one. The hikers laced up snugly with that roomy toe box and throughout the day I was nothing but comfortable, constantly reminded of how roomy the toe felt.
The Rampart Ridge Loop is no slouch when it comes to inclines and declines. The trail was dry but loose dirt, rocks and even snow did not hinder these boots. Traction was as good as I could ask for in a hiker. Just take a look at those outsoles, the rugged lugs grip like mad.
