ANNOUNCING our Spring 2015 KEEN Effect Grantees

Over 800 applications from 19 different countries since January!?  That’s a remarkable amount of individuals and organizers dedicated to making our world a better place – we were completely thrilled and blown away!

Over the last month, the KEEN Effect Committee had the humbling and exciting opportunity to review these applications, reading the passion and dedication on each application.  After much discussion and many tough decisions, we landed on our top SIX (read to the end and help us choose the seventh)!

Now introducing our newest KEEN Effect Grantees:

First Descents. Based out of Colorado, USA, but running tributary programs in ten cities across the country, First Descents offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis.

Muddy Sneakers.  Coming out of North Carolina, Muddy Sneakers brings the classroom outside to instill in children a life-long love of nature, and to do it in a way that enhances academic achievement.

GirlVentures.  Close to our Palo Alto California KEEN Garage, GirlVentures empowers girls to stretch beyond their comfort zones and explore new physical, social, emotional, and creative activities as they grow into adulthood.

Open Meadows.  In our own Portland, Oregon backyard, Open Meadows prepares students for success in college, career, and community with programs designed for Open Outdoor Learning – a mix of advocacy, equality, and academics – for a successful life beyond high school.

Green Thumbs, Growing Kids.  This great group from Toronto, Canada empowers urban children, youth, and their families to learn about, grow, and prepare fresh foods, cultivated in an environmentally-sustainable manner through hands-on programs.

Sustainable Coastlines.  A repeat from last year that had such an impact with our KEEN family in New Zealand, we’re funding them again.  This group helps keep the New Zealand coastlines beautiful by supporting large-scale coastal clean-up events, educational programs, public awareness campaigns, and riparian planting projects.

Because of the overwhelming quantity of amazing applications, we’re funding an additional, $10,000 Grantee, but we need your help deciding who should receive it!  Click the image below to cast your vote for one of these three amazing groups (voting ends May 6th, 2015):
